At the SCS Annual Meeting that took place in Portorož from 16th to 18th September 2026 Prof. dr. Andreja Žgajnar Gotvajn presented the “Development of Doctoral Schools in Water Science: A New Model for Capacity Development and Scientific Excellence” (co-authors: Andreja Žgajnar Gotvajn, Barbara Hribar-Lee and Zoran Bosnić from University of Ljubljana, Jane Tanner and Nelson Odume from Rhodes University, Natascha Wagner from Radboud University, and Gerold Winkler from University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna). The new doctoral program “Water Futures Doctoral School” has been developed in 2024 by partners of the “Water Resoures Management for Sustainable and Just Future” Africa-Europe CoRE. The programme focuses on water quality, pollution, ecosystem health, governance, and sustainable water resource management by integrating chemistry, environmental sciences, engineering, ecology, and social sciences.
