The global landscape for management of our water resources is changing. Increasing demand, industrialisation, climate change and increasing entwining of social and ecological systems means traditional water resource management (WRM) is not meeting the challenges of our changing environments.
The Water Research Center coordinates the work within the Water Resources Management for a Sustainable and Just Future Africa-Europe CoRE whose objectives include exploring novel and innovative approaches that transform current WRM, and in doing so develop an innovative and transformed network of researchers and projects, resulting in effective impacts (on the ground) in the medium to long term.
To address key water needs in Africa and Europe develop a PhD program to produce future aqua-leaders.
To build capacity and capability.
To design new rainwater utilization models, addressing climate impact studies, and AI security.
To develop new nano-materials, and nature-based solutions for water treatment.
To investigate water quality's effect on biodiversity and health, and develop biomonitoring tools.
To identify training needs, run workshops, and engage additional stakeholders.
To establish a monitoring framework, co-create learning workshops, and set up a participatory platform.
